Kbal Spean History: ("Bridgehead") is an Angkor-era site on the southwestern slopes of the Kulen Hills in Cambodia, 35 km from the main Angkor group. It is commonly known as the Valley of 1000 Lingas. It consists of a series of stone carvings on and around the Tung Kbal Spipan River. There are roughly three motifs in the stone carvings: the myriad lingams, depicted as neatly arranged ridges covering the rock face; lingam-yoni design; Various Hindu mythological motifs, including depictions of gods and animals. Most of the archaeological traces of Qbalspan date from the 11th to 13th centuries. The construction of Kbalspan was started by King Suryavarman I and later completed by Udayadityavarman II. It is commonly known as the valley of 1000 lingas due to the presence of 1,000 lingas believed to be sculptures dug out of the Siem Reap riverbed. The lingas were believed to fertilize the waters of East Barai and irrigate the rice fields.
